SUPPORTING WORK Used by a colleague
SAP Report Bridge
A bridge out of hard-to-access SAP reports.
Recurring SAP exports made faster, with launcher guidance, run reports and practical support for a colleague.
Seconds of hands-on launch effort, followed by unattended processing; handover supported by a colleague’s run report.
The business problem
Required SAP reports were accessible through a desktop workflow, creating repetitive extraction work and an awkward handoff into analysis.
My contribution
I built a Python and Windows desktop automation approach for recurring extraction and reporting inputs. I also provided launcher and batch-file guidance, helped a colleague check scheduled runs, and followed up on output and logging questions.
Faster work, with a handover someone could use.
Recurring SAP extraction that had required about two hours of manual work could be launched in seconds and then run unattended. Archived runs took approximately 14–26 minutes of processing. A colleague forwarded a successful run report, and follow-up correspondence records launcher and scheduling support.
The time reduction concerns hands-on effort, not total elapsed runtime. Recorded runtimes describe particular runs, not a service guarantee. The public repository contains documentation and conceptual visuals; the original implementation is unavailable.
SEE THE WORK
The idea in practice
Illustrative examples use fictional data.
Make the next run easier.
~2 hours manual work → seconds to launch.
Then runs unattended · archived processing: 14–26 minutes
Repeated SAP exports → Manual file preparation → Reporting inputs becomes Automated SAP extraction → Organised files & periods → Outputs + run report. ~2 hours manual work → seconds to launch.
The delivery approach
Use the available interface
Coordinate the desktop extraction path with Python and pywinauto.
Structure the reporting handoff
Organize files and reporting periods for downstream processing.
Support the person running it
Provide a launcher, explain the batch-file setup and help check the last scheduled run. Use the run report and output files to investigate problems; a completed job message alone does not prove every export succeeded.
